British Junior National Championships
With a very wet and damp start to the day, two of Westcotts Junior Club members took to the field to shoot in the British Junior National Championships at the National Sports Center, Lillishall. The day was a windy one with gusts reaching 30 mph and constant showers of heavy and light rain throughout the morning but cleared up a bit in the afternoon. It was definitely a day for the wet weather gear to be close to hand.
Cameron (11) and Owen (8) did themselves proud considering the conditions on the day completing both of their rounds with no misses, where even some of the older UK squad members were having misses. It made for a long day but both finished in the top 5 of their respective age groups.
Cameron finished 5th in the Recurve Bristol IV with a new Personal Best score of 1060 allowing him to collect his Blue 1000 point "ROSE" award after collecting his 900 Black award in his first Bristol IV round at Cleve. He also managed to shoot two 6 gold ends at 30yds allowing him to collect his 6 gold end badge as well.
Owen was shooting his first ever competative outdoor target round and was entered in the non-championship Bristol V round shooting at 20, 15 and 10 yds. He was a bit nervous at the start but soon settled into the swing of shooting and soon proved that he was going to try his best. The weather was a factor here on the two Bristol V targets as the low bow weight and light arrows meant the arrows were caught very easily by the wind, but with a friendly rivalry on each target Owen soon progressed to second place where he stayed throughout the day. He was very pleased to get his award from Tom Williamson the President of the Grand National Archery Society. But wouldn't allow Tom to nick his chocolate bar that was part of the presentation.

Owen finished in second place with a score of 1046 and it should be mentioned he managed to shoot 15 golds in his last 18 arrows in the round including 13 consecutive golds. It was a good day for both boys who were elated with their results but very tired by the end of it.
