2008 Westcott Indoor Champs
ResultsAs always at Westcott we try and improve each shoot we do and today was no different. After lots of preparation we managed to have everything ready the day before and everything including the kettle was waiting for the archers as they turned up. Due to the amount of rain that had fallen in the last 24 hours we also had to put together a walk board system using pallets as there was up to 2" of water lying around the hall entrance, luckily it held off from entering the hall. With the usual few late arrivals perhaps due to the weather we managed to start close to the start time having received word they were close. This year we were able to keep a leader board going many thanks to everyone who helped out in both sessions with this. There was not enough time to put together the new tournament software in time but we managed to piece it together with an excel spreadsheet and it kept everyone informed.
The tournament was full and with the ever increasing competitive spirit at Westcott it was a close affair. Second place in the Gents recurve was a very tight affair with Jonathan and Alek fighting it out over the round. It was all square at the 3 dozen, with Alex pulling ahead by 3 points in the 4th dozen all for Jonathan to edge it by a single point at the end of the round. The Senior Ladies Recurve was a similar story with Jean Collins and Sue Matthews vying for first place with only one point separating them at three dozen. Jeans international experience finally telling with victory by six points and it was all the more rewarding as she was rushing off afterwards to her own Birthday Party. Senior performance of the day must go to Fred Wentworth (70) who won the Gents Barebow Division. Junior performance of the competition came from Cameron Murray (10) in the U12 Gents competition. Cameron managed to shoot his second PB of the week having not practised much in the last month but this time increased his PB by 19 points. This also landed him the Competition Handicap Prize by a healthy margin.
Congratulations to all of the archers who took part especially our juniors who behaved impeccably and also performed well under the pressure.
