CHILTERN ARCHERS Vs WESTCOTT ARCHERS - 27th January 2008
Westcott Archers travelled the short distance down the road to one of our nearest clubs Chiltern Archers to compete in a team Portsmouth Round. With the Westcott hall having been out of action for the last two weeks because of our hugely popular Indoor 3D shoots, practice time and available indoor distance has been somewhat limited and lots of our archers were frantically trying to get some practice before this weekends shoot. There was also a clamour from the whole club to get back on the line and get back to their regular shooting patterns.
With 14 archers shooting both recurve and compound bows for each side and with 6 Rucurve and 2 Compound scores to count towards the final score for both sides it was going to be a tight affair with some of our strongest archers shooting for Westcott and Chiltern fielding many of their Pro Shooting Teams. After a second count of the scores Westcott Archers narrowly defeated Chiltern Archers coming out with a combined score of 4430 to Chilterns 4416.
The shoot was held in the Chiltern Archery shooting hall and with lots of space it was a very nice atmosphere with archers from both sides telling jokes and tales of past experiences and generally having a bit of fun. Everything was progressing well until the round was interrupted at the end of the first dozen with an expensive sounding bang from somewhere near the two compound bosses. On closer inspection it was found that our very own Cass James had shot one of her last arrows of the dozen straight down the middle of Mark her Chiltern Archers shooting partner''s larger diameter arrow, pushing the nock ully into the arrow and burying itself right up to her fletchings which had been partially ripped off. Mark kindly let her keep the arrow as a prize for her 'Robin Hood'. This resulted in both arrows counting as a ten as Marks arrow had been soundly buried in the 10 before the impact.
